Gina’s Diary: My Parents Keep Fighting

I’ll tell you more about Gina soon. For now, I’d like to focus on her problem. I only recall a handful of times when I was awakened in the night by my parents’ arguments, but that was enough. I remember the irritation, the stress (sometimes it lasted for days afterward), the curiosity… I remember being wide awake after the fight was over and feeling like I’d never get back to sleep. There were times when I wanted to get up and make a trip to the bathroom or to the kitchen for a drink, yet I was afraid to move from my bed because I didn’t want my mom and dad to know I hadn’t slept through their turmoil.

Monday Music

At some point during the final destruction of my marriage, I discovered an old Eagles cassette (I still love cassette tapes. They’re so durable!) and for as long as I still had a tape player in my car, I listened to this song on my way to work. My favorite line is “so often times it happens that we live our lives in chains, and we never even know we have the key…”

Little Words; Big Impact

…I was standing outside the day care center at my place of employment. It was mid-May and the sun was shining. I was talking to my co-worker about my Horrid Home Situation: the screaming matches, the late-night drives to nowhere, the fact that I was sleeping on the couch. She knew something was up, of course, because she’d observed the change in my demeanor.
