Let’s Talk About Boundaries, Shall We?

Let’s go ahead and get this out in the open:  I’m a Liberal.  (full disclosure:  I’m more of an anarchist in my home, and I’m registered Independent, but at the national level I believe in a collaborative effort to ensure the health, welfare, and education of all people.) (Quick Note: I promise this post isn’t about US politics, but the following experience was my inspiration for writing it…) The election results have been difficult to sit with.  Because equality and civil rights are important to me.  And I’ve come to understand why silence is violence. Recently I published a post […]

Why You Don’t Need a Divorce Coach

I’m a divorce coach. But do you need a divorce coach?  Nope, you don’t. Don’t get me wrong. Divorce coaches are awesome allies in helping their clients take productive steps to create a better future. They certainly have a lot to offer and can help you feel and do better. But here’s the thing…  Those going through divorce are often bombarded with advice:  call this lawyer, it’s better if you get this judge, move out, don’t move out, empty the bank account, hire a private investigator or a forensic accountant, work with a divorce coach…. Death and Divorce

I didn’t think I’d spend my Friday morning deeply contemplating the similarities between death and divorce. But that’s what happened… After yoga class, I scanned my Instagram feed and found a screen shot posted by Hello Divorce. The image featured comments from a Facebook post, and the authors clearly do not approve of ending a marriage. In the comments under the image, Modern Split chimed in to say that they too have been criticized for their work. I can relate as well. It’s not uncommon for those of us who work in the divorce field to come under fire from […]

Collaborative Divorce Coach

Divorce Coach vs. Collaborative Law Coach

Earlier this month, I attended training for professionals looking to participate in the Collaborative Divorce Process. Collaborative teams typically consist of two attorneys (one to represent each party), a financial professional (neutral) and a coach (neutral). Since I’m a coach and an overall divorce enthusiast, I jumped at the opportunity to deepen my knowledge about this topic. I went, even though I’m not eligible to participate on a collaborative team. I’m not eligible, you see, because there’s a difference between a Divorce Coach (me) and a Coach in the collaborative process.  Let’s investigate… First, an analogy to illustrate the difference […]

Making Divorce Healthier

Change is coming. Can you feel it? It’s been happening for a few years, now. While I’ve been out there typing my message and talking to anyone who will listen, others have also been hard at work. We now have more coaches. We have more mediators. Sometimes mediation is required before a couple can see a judge. Collaborative Divorce is a thing- an option gaining in popularity (in some areas more than others). More parents see the value in “conscious uncoupling.” And…slowly but surely, we’re seeing events devoted to the topic of divorce and separation. The one I’m most excited […]
