I got married

I Got Married! Yes, Really.

Remember when I said, “I’m not anti-marriage“? Here’s proof… On January 14, 2017, I tied the knot with my domestic partner of the past two years. We self-united in a small and simple ceremony, surrounded by our closest family members. One of our friends played the cello. Another facilitated the exchange of our vows and rings and later served as our photographer. It was simple, yet elegant. And overall, it was my favorite of all the weddings I’ve attended. The comparison between my first and second weddings has been interesting. This time, I feel more confident. About everything. I’m not suggesting […]

PA Divorce Law Has Changed

I got divorced in Pennsylvania in 2006. At the time, I was fairly ignorant to the specifics of PA divorce law. In July of that year I made a phone call to a lawyer… he sent me some papers… I signed things and sent a check… then I think I signed some other things… and in November I received a sealed divorce decree.  The whole process had taken less than four months. The Week Between…

The week between Christmas and New Years always feels strange to me. A few years ago, I heard someone on the radio say it’s the week that “doesn’t count.” At the time, I laughed in agreement. But now I’m not so sure. The week between Christmas and New Years is like the space between stories. It’s filled with an odd mix of quiet reflection and eager anticipation… soulful solitude and social gatherings… laughter and tears. During this week, we discard that which was once useful and we create space for what’s yet to come. And as we count down the days, […]

Divorce on TV: My Favorite Shows

The subject of Divorce is becoming more prominent in our culture, and that makes me very happy. If you’re a regular reader, you know that I want this issue to be an accepted Life Event. In order to better support those in the process, we (the collective “we”) need to change our minds, our hearts and our words. Until recently, this has been a difficult task because the topic has been veiled by shame. Not anymore. These days, we’re seeing more and more Divorce on TV. Following is a quick summary of some of my favorite TV shows that highlight […]
