Between Christmas and The New Year

The week between Christmas and the new year always feels strange to me. A few years ago, I heard someone on the radio say it’s the week that “doesn’t count.” At the time, I laughed in agreement.  Now I’m not so sure.

This time at the end of the year is like the space between stories. It’s filled with an odd mix of quiet reflection and eager anticipation… soulful solitude and social gatherings… laughter and tears. During this week, we discard that which was once useful and we create space for what’s yet to come. And while we count down the days, hours, minutes and seconds to a new year… each second counts.

This isn’t a week of wasted time.

It’s more like a week of incubation, as we complete our final bits of evolution before bursting forth into a new year. This week is the bridge that connects what was with what will be. It’s a transition between time, relationships, chapters of our lives, and versions of ourselves.

Can you feel it?

This week, I’m throwing things away and making space to be filled. I’m meditating, mourning, planning, intending, imagining and stretching (figuratively and literally). And, as I honor my sadness over what’s been lost, mingled with my fears and hopes for the future, I’m reminding myself of my personal potential and the infinite possibilities that lie ahead.

All of *this* is progress.

Wishing you a peaceful and prosperous evolution towards 2019.
